Reflection | EQUIPPED

Is there anything more frustrating that trying to do something and not having what you need to get it done? Running out of paint half way through the second coat or not having the right size screwdriver the take down that shelf.

In reaching our goals, we need our intention and we need the tools. Step one is having the want to - we passion and drive to do the thing in the first place. If we don’t actually have the desire, then it won’t matter how many tools we have. As Robert Hughes puts it, “A determined soul will do more with a rusty monkey wrench than a loafer will accomplish with all the tools in a machine shop.” Step two is to equip ourselves with whatever we need to make it all happen.

At LIVEmpowered, we are in the equipping business. We want everyone we work with, whether staff or volunteer, to have everything they need to fulfill the roles and tasks we are asking of them. For those we work for, we want them to have everything they need to fulfill their goals.

One of the things we hear most in the communities we work in, from teachers, youth workers, pastors and students alike, is that they want to help struggling young people but they don’t know how to - they don’t feel equipped.

Our Community Empowerment Program was born out of this need and seeks to equip adults and students to recognize and meet the needs of young people around them. We cover topics like depression, self harm and addiction providing training on the warning signs to look out for, how to support someone who is struggling and where to direct them for professional help.

When it comes to teenagers, their mental health and their aspirations, we want to see every community and individual with a desire to make a difference, equipped with all the information and tools they need.
